Our learning has truly been brought to life this term thanks to the generous support of some of our wonderful parents within the Lamerton community who work in fascinating roles that help others.
We began with a visit from Louise, a paramedic, who even brought an ambulance for the children to explore. They were able to ask questions, look around inside, and were thrilled to hear the sirens!
Next, we welcomed Amy, Maria and Emma. Amy shared her expertise as a midwife. The children learned about how midwives help to monitor and deliver babies, as well as the care provided afterwards. A very special moment came when Maria allowed the children to listen to her baby’s heartbeat using a doppler and feel her baby moving—an experience many will never forget. We also want to thank Emma and baby Bertie, who at just six weeks old was an absolute superstar, calmly sleeping through all the excitement.
Laura then joined us to talk about her work in a veterinary practice and caring for animals. She kindly gifted us two soft toy animals and a vet role‑play kit, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed using ever since. Many have now announced that they would like to be vets just like her!
Later in the week, Ali, one of our local farmers, visited school with three calves—including one that was only three days old. The children learned about life on the farm, how many animals he cares for, and even discovered that the milk from his cows is used to make Cathedral City cheese! They asked countless thoughtful questions about what cows need to grow and thrive.
Finally, Jen treated us to a fascinating doctor session. As a specialist lung doctor, she created a 3D model of the human body to help the children understand how our bodies—and especially our lungs—work. The class was so captivated that we are keeping the model in school for further exploration today.
A heartfelt thank‑you to everyone who helped make these incredible visits possible. Hands‑on learning like this creates meaningful memories, deepens understanding, and truly enriches our curriculum. We are so grateful for your time, expertise and generosity—you are an invaluable part of our community.
